How to Calculate a Percentage Increase

Enter the original value, then enter the percentage increase, and click "Calculate" to see the new value and the amount of the increase instantly. The formula used is simple: New Value = Original Value × (1 + Percentage ÷ 100).

For example, to increase 500 by 10%: 500 × (1 + 10 ÷ 100) = 550. That means the new value is 550, and the increase amount is 50.

How to Find the Percentage Increase Between Two Numbers

If you already know the starting value and the final value and want to find the percentage increase between them, use this formula: Percentage Increase = ((Final Value − Starting Value) ÷ Starting Value) × 100.

For example, if your salary went from $60,000 to $66,000, the increase is: (66,000 − 60,000) ÷ 60,000 × 100 = 10%. If the result comes out negative, it means there was actually a decrease rather than an increase.

When Do You Need a Percentage Increase Calculator?

This calculator is useful for working out a new salary after a raise, finding the new price after a price hike, calculating sales or profit growth as a percentage, estimating the future value of a number after a set increase, or tracking growth rates like inflation and population growth.

It's also handy when comparing performance across time periods — for example, checking how much website traffic, revenue, or stock value has grown from one period to the next.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a percentage increase manually?

Multiply the original value by (1 + percentage ÷ 100). For example, to increase 500 by 10%: 500 × (1 + 10 ÷ 100) = 550.

Does the calculator show the increase amount too?

Yes, along with the new value, the calculator shows the exact amount of the increase.

How do I calculate percentage increase in Excel?

Use the formula =(B1-A1)/A1, where A1 is the original value and B1 is the new value. Format the result cell as "Percentage" to display it correctly.

How do I calculate a salary increase percentage?

Subtract your old salary from your new salary, divide the result by your old salary, then multiply by 100. For example, a raise from $60,000 to $66,000 is a 10% increase.

What does a 50% increase mean?

A 50% increase means the new value is 1.5 times the original value — it's the same as taking half of the original value and adding it on top.
